Self-collected September 2019.

A note on shark vertebra and fish vertebra:
"The vertebral centra of sharks can be distinguished from the vertebrae of bony fish by a number of characteristics. Shark vertebral centra are generally disk-shaped with both faces concave. The surfaces are fine-grained and similar to porcelain in appearance. The circumferencial surfaces usually exhibit two pairs of holes where the neural and hemal arches are anchored. Fish vertebra, on the other hand, will show spiny processes where the neural and hemal arches and other bony projections were attached."

After one successful hunt at this spot last year, I went back the next day to try my luck again. I only managed to come home with a couple of pieces but was very happy with this one. These vertebrae have been tentatively identified as belonging to Pachyrhizodus. To see the video from I discovered it, click here to go to my Instagram post.

Genus/Species: Pachyrhizodus (tentative)
